Have an ip camera system which I want to view from web. Due to security issues with port forwarding, I've been reading that vpn is the way. However I've also read that setting up vpn is not easy.

Has anybody done this successfully with Sky ? I have fibre, but think it's actually vdsl if I'm not mistaken. I guess I need my own router and set it up with dd wrt? How do I tie it all into the sky modem?

Just port forward, it's much easier and is secure if you restrict it to https only. Setting up a VPN is not an easy task especially when you have a restrictive cheap as chips router and a provider who does not give you a static ip or the login details to use on your own router

If your camera is a cheap chinese one, don't expose it to the net. Mirai is a great example why thats true.

if you have a pc that always on you can set up that as a VPN server.

if you dont then buy a raspberry pi and you can use that as the server.

A VPN server isnt that hard to set up. there is many guides online showing the steps involved. if your stuck you can always ask us.
