Loud clicking noise when releasing clutch

Just wondering if anyone could help me. I'm getting a little click as the clutch is engaged and a very loud ticking noise when I release the clutch. The ticking noise happens when the clutch is almost fully disengaged.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how much this might be to repair. Am I safe to continue driving the car untill I get it fixed tomorrow?

    Thanks,
    Gary

Maybe the release bearing. It's a big time consuming job, so the labour would load on the costs. It would be easier to get a whole new clutch kit installed, instead of just the bearing.
It might be needed anyway if the bearing has done some damage. Driving it on will most likely cause damage and run up costs.

Thank you for your reply. Any idea how much would it cost to install a new clutch + labour?

Sounds like the pushrod between the pedal and the master cylinder to me. The cup at the end of the master cylinder gets worn and the pushrod is slipping as you use the clutch. Does it sound like it's in the area of the pedal?

It does sound like the noise is coming from close to the pedal. I can feel the click in my foot as it happens. Almost like something is popping up. I'll mention that to the mechanic tomorrow, thanks.

This is s Ford thing. It's a plastic ratchet sort of thing that connects the pedal to the cable. It shouldn't be expensive to fix but it will eventually fail and you'll have no clutch.

    Thanks cml387

It's in with a mechanic now. He had a quick look but he thinks it might be the pedal spring. Hopefully it'll be fixed today and I won't be without a car for the weekend.

I'll update later with the findings and how much it cost.

Were Ford still using that stupid cheapo ratchet thing in 2009:eek: After the dreaded VV carburettor it was definitely one of their worst ever designs:mad:, penny pinching gits.

Clutch spring is a common one with the focus alright. Nice cheap fix compared to what you may have first though :)

Got the car back this evening. The return spring was gone on it. He charged me €100 for parts and labour. He said it would have been €60 but he couldn't get at it so he had to take out the pedal which took a bit longer.
