It is my understanding that a land boundary must have enough space for a fence to be erected.
For example, it can't be at the bottom of a rock cliff tight against the rock with no room for a path and a fence.
The thick line on the Land Registry maps are no good for resolving this issue.

Why can't a cliff be it's fence, what's the path for, I think I'd be bolting something to the rock to carry the fence rather than trying to chisel down posts in rocky ground.
You need photographs, don't really understand what you're on about

    Probably right.

I would've thought if I'd land going up to the bottom of a big cliff it'd be happy days as the cliff would serve as a fence and save me a lot of hard work and money erecting one assuming stock couldn't climb the cliff.

The notion of a path between boundaries gave me a laugh though. Wouldn't anybody who's ever been in the countryside know that there's normally a single fence between fields and certainly no path down between them.

The thick lines in a Land registry map indicate the area within that thick line and not including the thick line are within that portfolio.

When you look at a land registery map of a portfolio you will see a thick (as it was put it orginally) red line around that portfolio. It is the area within the red border that is in that portfolio. The inner part of the red line is to indicate the area within the portfolio. The area covered by the red line is not part of the portfolio.
