We're thinking of going camping next month and I need to get something very secure make sure our dog doesn't wander/ steal & obliterate kids footballs etc and just for peace of mind.
The normal screw in the ground things would be grand for easy going dogs but I'm wondering what else is out there?

We used to take the dogs away in the motor home and tethered the boxer to the chassis..

If you have a car with you the tow loop would work just as well..

We tried the corkscrew pegs but gave up on the third one as they were useless for a young, strong and very inquisitive boxer..

Yeah I was thinking maybe just tie it to the car alloy. I don't know the layout of the site, I'm presuming I'll be able to park next to the tent

Anything you drive into the ground is going to be insufficient for a determined strong dog; they will pull on it continuously and eventually it'll pop out.

If the car isn't an option, then something insanely heavy might be.

E.g. 3 of these full to the brim is 105kg:

I would be skeptical of a boxer's ability to haul these, though if you had five of them full to the brim, he's going nowhere :)

    Lol a malamute would.

Tie to the car and make sure there's shelter available for doggie...knowing the irish summer.Plus a wet dog in a tent is really unpleasant...;)

Most campsites allow parking beside tents.. Worth calling and asking if it's a showstopper..

Personally i wouldn't use the alloy but then i'm anal about me car :D

There are plenty of bars, struts, hooks and loops underneath that won't matter if they get scratched.. The tow hook is perfect..

Worth keeping in mind as well that once the dog is tethered they are essentially trapped. Heard an awful story about a dog being savaged while tethered as i'm sure we all have..

Although it doesn't sound like your dog is any push over either :pac:

Enjoy the camping.. our kids grew out off it so it's on hold till they start doing their own thing..

Can't wait to back on the road ;)

Note that on most cars the tow hook is detachable and stowed in the boot along with the jack etc. and needs to be screwed in to a mount behind the plastic bumper. Usually there's a round plastic cap covering this which needs to be removed, very carefully to avoid scrtaching the paint, before you can access this.

I love the idea of water tanks as the more I think about tying the dog to the car I wonder if the rope would scrape or catch on the bumpers as shed go around the car?
If a very similar dog can do this in a few minutes then even by accident anything is possible!
