What weed is this

    Hi folks, new lawn and this bad boy is sprouting .. The weed appears to spread and the roots are concerning, its a greenery purple colour

    Any ideas what it is and can it be killed in due course ??

    Looks like ivy to me. Some ivies do sprawl along the ground, they are planted for the purpose of ground cover.

    Is it spreading along by its stems, or growing straight out of the ground?

    Seems to spread its got a very distinction white fine frilly root system

    I agree about ivy, but not hedera, more likely 'ground ivy' which is no relation. Does it have a soft leaf or a leathery one?

    I'm beginning to think an ivy now that ye say it .. Haven't felt the leaves yet but will do this evening this is a pic of it roots
