Air con condenser

Hi, noticed the other day something hanging down underneath the front of the car. Taking a look it was a foam strip from between the radiator and the AC condenser. While looking at that though I could see that the fins are breaking off the condenser in places. There was a pile of them on top of the remaining foam strip. Would I be better off with a garage for the condenser replacement or one of the air-con only places? It seems like they mostly only do servicing and re-gassing, but is there one in the Dublin area that also does repairs?

    Cheers.

    Sounds expensive.

    What year/model of car.?
    Do you use A/C regularly.?
How long do you plan to keep the car.?

personally, if 80%+ of the fins are still intact, i'd bodge it

Hi, sorry, yes first quote is a fair bit all right. Its a 2010, but likely to have it for a while so will price around. AC is used regularly, mostly for demisting more than cooling, except for the last few days. Definitely more than 80% of the fins left so was hoping I'd get away with it, but noticing now that it's not as cool as I'd expect, so might be a leak as well.

Might try one of the mobile crowds for a diagnostic first and go from there. The garage I normally use don't do AC repair it turns out.

We'll, you have a few options.
    1) fork out what will probably be a good chunk of money and have the condenser replaced, that will include a pressure test and regas, and leave a/c on the whole time

    2) go to the likes of kwikfit and get a regas, and see how you get on. And leave a/c on the whole time.

    3) do nothing

    4) pressure test and regas.

    5) get a fit regas kit from the likes of halfords (don't do this)

Personally I'd go for option 2
