When I became unemployed I was told that I had enough contributions for JSB but that I didn't have enough for the full amount so I'd be better off on JSA. I now find myself in the position where I'm not really fit for work. If I switch to illness benefit would I still get a reduced amount based on my credit, or would coming from JSA entitle me to the full payment. I can't afford a drop in my income but a friend told me he thinks I'd get the same. Reluctant to ring social welfare and ask as they'd then know I don't meet the fit for work requirement.

You will qualify for Illness benefit only if you have the required PRSI paid and credited in the relevant tax year which is 2015.
Then you would get an amount commensurate with your weekly wage that year.
To get the full €193 you would want to have been earning €300 or more a week in 2015.
You still have to submit an MC1 form if your not fit for work wether your going to qualify for Illness Benefit or not.
And an interim Cert every week after that.
The CWO will pay you whatever you were getting out in JSA in SWA instead if you don't qualify for Illness Benefit

Thanks for that. I'd be down around €70 a week by my calculations, so couldn't survive if there wasn't some other help in place.

Now I just need to get my GP to agree. One of my Consultants is adamant that I should be on it but GP is disagreeing.
