My wages currently go into Ulster Bank, but I was thinking of saving with the credit union.

But is it smarter in the long term to keep all your financial activities in the one bank? In case I want to apply for a mortgage in 10 years or so.

It makes no difference, they'll just want to see statements from accounts held with other banks.
Also, there is no point in trying to tie yourself to one institution, who may not be the most competitive when you go to get a mortgage.
