    Hi,
Recently bought 1940 house, new oil boiler fitted about 3 years ago. There is a small amount if gun barrel which I happy does need to go.
I'm looking for some advice , there is micro bore feeding the heating system into the rads and wondering does it need to be replaced ? Or would flushing and magnatising work. Would the long term maintance factor into the decision ?

We are doing a lot of renovations so if this is to be done I'm wondering what benefit it brings ?

One last thing the rads in the house are very long no convert or grill. Would there be a benefit to replacing these?

    Cheers

If it were me I would replace the microbore as it's susceptible to circulation problems, I'd fit new rads, magnetic filter and fit the best heating controls practical ie multiple zones, TRVs, cylinder stat etc..

I would not try power flushing micropore as it has in the past blocked the system completely during flushing.

What pipework would you recommend it is changed to ? The plumber mentioned an alternative to copper but can't remember the name.
Is there some rad brands better than others if I'm going ahead want to ensure I get the benefit of the change ?

I've flushed dozens of microbore systems and this has never happened TBH. Not to say it can't though.

Acorn or qualpex with oxygen barrier is fine. Most rads are the same quality these days.

But if it was your house would you take the opportunity to tidy things up now while you have the chance without any drama or role the dice on pipework that has more issues than larger bore?

As I'm a miserable pessimistic gas fitter that has little faith I would go for the tidy up now to reduce potential drama after i'v beautified my house.

Oh no I was only talking about flushing microbore systems in general. Never had an issues doing them.
If I was the op and was planning on renovating then yes, 100% upgrade the entire system.

Seen it more than once Dec, and seen the re-plumb that followed.
