Ensuite shower replacement

    Hi all,

So we are going to replace the shower tray and screens etc. in our ensuite.

    See attached pic.

Planning on removing the wall which currently forms one side of the shower to get a reasonable sized quad shower in. Intending on keeping the electric shower in place.

    The perimeter walls are plasterboard.

Just looking for any tips from anyone who has done this themselves before:

    - do I need to tank the wall etc. Or will new tiles be sufficient?
    - is fitting a low profile shower tray any more difficult than the standard type that is currently in?
    - any recommendations regarding type of shower tray? E.g. I've heard that you should get one with a lip around the edge to receive the tiles which reduces the chances of leaking.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    D

Tanking is the best option. Done right & no leaks, it'll be a lifetime job

The "lip" is called upstands. Tilers hate them. Unless you get all sides into the wall you'll end up with sloping bottom row of tiles

The whole job is tricky enough. It might be better if you ripped everything out yourself inc the wall to save some money but I'd still get a plumber in to fit the actual shower. I'm not saying you won't be able to do it yourself ( I don't know what your plumbing skills are like) but its a hard job to get right. A plumber wouldn't let an apprentice attack a job like this on their own & they would have worked on dozens of showers.
