Reporting bad landlord

Just wondering where does one report a bad landlord who took advantage of homeless family renting a house that is in no conditions for any human being to live in and never did any repairs nor supply any needed material for the Tennant to be able to improve the condition of the house? The family is no longer stuck in the house with the help of friends but took them months to get out of that house to a better place. They have taken 50 photos of the condition of the house before they left and some were taken when moved in so they don't get blame for anything. They were given the house by the homeless unit and we're paying rent immediately when moved in. But never once the landlord done anything that he was told about the house. Going by the condition of the house, it must have violated numbers of regulations for it being rented to anyone, and by the way this landlord is a TD

    Thanks in advice.

The tenants should have reported the conditions to the council and the RTB. Now that they're out they are no longer an involved party.

They can speak to a journalist but other than that there's not a lot they can do.

The landlord cannot be identified on boards and any identifying information will be removed.

Local council welfare officer/accommodation officer and the tenant could make a complaint to the RTB.

They're not looking for anything, but everyone of us would want this kind of carry on to be stopped.

What was wrong with the house? People have notions that council rental housing codes include things like nice carpets, desks and recently painted walls. In reality, it is literally just minimal standards like a washing machine, fridge/freezer, 4 ring hob etc.

You might not be happy with the condition of the house, but that does not mean it broke any laws

Council housing departments have inspectors for rented accommodation.

this house has never been inspected. It was rented through the homeless unit (hse). The washing machine is very very old. The door couldn't be opened as the handle was broken off. There was a note left on top of the washing machine from the previous tenant asking for their clothes to be returned to them as they were unable to open it. The landlord said he would get it fixed but never did. The washing machine had to be opened and closed using a screwdriver and the washing machine door seal was leaking when in use, it would trip the fuse if you don't use it on Eco mode. The roof was leaking in several parts of the house. There was black mold in the fridge, freezer and also on the walls. There was no heating upstairs, 2 electric heaters were broken and one bedroom didn't have any heater at all. After a short time there was mold on top of the pillowcases as there was no ventilation in the house. 2 windows were broken and never fixed. The front and back door would have to be opened to let out smoke when you light up the stove. This is just some of the problems with the house. There are a lot more problems with the house and the landlord did nothing about it. Tenant had offered to do all the work on the house if the landlord provided the materials but nothing was provided. Since the family were homeless to begin with they would not be able to do any of the repair in the house without the materials being provided and it is not their job to do so anyway to begin with.

Its a bit late to be complaining about that gaff here. You should contact a local councillor or ring the housing dept of your Local Authority.
