Working Blues

    Hey...

I guess I'm feeling pretty down at the moment.

I was on the Social Welfare for the last 8 years (I'm 33) (recession was terrible) and I recently got a job in Elvery's sports.

I've been working there for almost 2 weeks now and I guess I'm just feeling down.

I miss the Wednesdays going to the pub and having 10 pints with the lads in temple bar. that was fun.

Have I made a big mistake?

My happiness is depleting because of taking this job.

    What do? :(

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now

I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now

I listened to the Smiths before and I honestly can't get into them.

How can you be motivated by listening to someone whine?

I don't work Friday through Tuesday.

Sorry; I guess I'm just a bit stressed.

So you have weekends off but are depressed about not being able to drink on a Wednesday afternoon....

Does anyone have any actual advice?

I want my parents to be proud of the fact I have a job.

Has anyone been in this situation before?

Collect welfare for the days you are off. You are seriously better off working then doing nothing, it's very bad for anyone. Plus you have every weekend off, isn't it better to have the same ten pints when people are actually out rather than in the middle of the week. You're just getting a hard dose of reality and you haven't got into a routine yet, eventually you will be glad of the job and money. In saying that I did sales before and it can be boring if it's quiet so try to have some kind of aim every day to motivate yourself.

    Thank you.

Do you think it would be bad to talk to my employer about having Wednesdays off as there are 4 guys that I know from school that go out on that night?

    Would that look bad?

So when do you work, Wednesdays and Thursdays?
You've been there 2 weeks....is that in total by days? Or by weeks, which means you've worked 4 days in total?

Yeah I think it would look terrible. You are basically working hours other people would kill for and have only just started the job. At the end of the day you can always go out at the weekend, you just need to break the habit of week drinking. If they don't have jobs they can always try to go out when you're free if they are anyway decent mates.

I come from a Republican family in a working class neighborhood.

I just want to contribute to this great country.

    However, Wednesdays are for friends.

I don't wanna lose my job.

I think that is very horrible thing to say!

Now that I am a working man I find that it's important to blow off some steam after working.

No he didn't, he typed it. It's there, right in front of you. If you think you didn't see it properly first time, you can just look at it again, you don't even have to ask him/her to retype it. It won't have changed.

    Jesus wept.

Ah fair play to you for persevering. Especially since, at 33, you know the difficulty of being kept back in school so long that you are at least 24 by the time you got to sit for the leaving.

You're more than likely a wind up OP.

Other than that you are one lazy whore if you can't get your head around the fact that you want to drink heavily on a Wednesday night and not have to work the next day.

I'm guessing your friends are state sponsored as well if they're drinking pints in temple bar on a Wednesday night.

    Bullshìt thread tbh...

This is a troll thread...doesn't work Friday through Tuesday but wants Wednesday off...Is a Republican....so basically only wants to work Thursday. Close down the thread because it's a joke. Plenty of other meaningful threads to discuss employment issues without jokers!

I think you need to get a different hobby than drinking. What seems like a good social activity after you've got a job and have the inside scoop is to start planning to rob the Elverys. It would be a good reason to meet up with old buddies and new, you'd have to learn some new hobbies, like how to disable security systems, tracking people's movements, disposing of evidence.. I've seen it done in a number of movies and they always seem to have loads of fun.

I was at a house party at a garda house very posh area I might ad. Two very expensive cars in the driveway. Had a few drinks at the house and he said to me` do not spill your drink on my chair` It cost over 5000 euros for a chair I went` what ? 5000 euros for a chair . Then he went on that he was all over world in Exotic Places now this was in 2009 the year of the great Irish banking crisis.

Can you get away with that though? I believe the system has changed a bit. You'll probably end up being sent to do a course in horse dressing or something.

Fair play for putting in 8 years though... 8 years they didn't get out of you. :)
