Any ideas why it doesn't show up on the Freesat EPG under News/HD channels?

I'm not tech savvy so I only use the re-tune buttom on the FTA box - but it still doesn't pick up CNN. Can anyone please explain how I can

    What type FTA box ?

You will have to use the manual tune option which looks up one transponder. A transponder is a frequency block that hosts a small number of channels.

In this case the frequency is 12051. The polarisation is V (vertical) and the Symbol Rate (S/R) is 27500. Input all of these and make sure the tuner is set to scan DVB-S rather than DVB-S2.

    Voila, Fake News in HD.

I had the same problem trying to find CNN, my Sony combi TV wouldn't find it, had to do a full reinstall of all the channels.

Does your manual tune option have the option to distinguish between the modulation types dvb-s and dvb-s2.

    Would be easy to miss.

No, normally all channels are found, except on this occasion.

I've an Ariva120 and nothing is showing up on that transponder at all (12051V).

Nothing found on the old 11112 one either.

    Any ideas?

    Box Nation HD
    Sony TV

are the only two channels I find listed on 12051 ...... not sure they are broadcasting though.

Boomerang and Cartoon Network together with CNN are listed on this transponder.

Just noticed that tvheadend was set to only check new muxes and not new+changed muxes.
That might explain the situation here.

EDIT: That was it! CNN & CNN HD have appeared.

    Works fine on my 120.
What is your LNB Freq set to? Menu / Installation / Antenna Setup
    Should be Universal 9750-10600

It's actually at my parents place so only got around to this today.

Fantastic help. The LNB freq for the astra2 satellite was incorrect and the one you posted worked perfect.

Can anyone explain, in simple terms plse, why a full automatic search didn't find the new settings?.

    Thanks to everyone.

Do a blind scan or network scan instead of automatic search. The box you have might not have that Transponder frequency 11671 H 22000 in it.

I can press a button that does an automatic search for the channels... but how can I do a blind scan or network scan? Do I need to input numbers etc? Luddite here so it's all beam me up Scotty language to me:) Thanks

On your main menu look for installation, click on that and then look for TP List, you will see a lot of numbers, in this format, 11671 H 22000, schroll thru them and see if this number is listed. If it is, highlight it and then choose search option.

If it is not there you have to add it, so press button for Add, and you will see options there to do what Navarre suggested.

After a search you need to go to 'all channels' and if cnn was found it will be there at the end of your all channels list. Good luck.:)

Working fine for me. More likely an issue with your own setup. A slight misalignment of the dish perhaps.

In the all channels list, look for the last or highest number and see if cnn is any where around there.

Yes, same issue here. Only with CNN. Everything else is perfect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,875 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

I just checked CNN and CNN HD and both are perfect. But I did not check the hundreds of other stations, so I can't say with certainty that they are all perfect also. A full scan should bring in 514 Free to Air TV stations, if the dish is properly aligned.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have issues with the reception of CNN HD ok both my TV's, one direct TV tuner and one on tiviar box. It's about the only channel that has this issue.

How do I trouble shoot this? Why would only one channel be impacted? Could the dish be misaligned or something.

Can I check signal quality on one transponder versus another? Will that highlight the potential issue?

It’s working for me but I had this exact same issue. And it was only CNN that was affected too. Turns out my dish had to be moved ever so slightly. I only figured it out because my neighbour was getting a new dish and I asked the installer to take a quick look

Thanks. That might be it but firstly I don't fancy getting up on my roof to fix it and secondly I wouldn't really know what I'm doing.

Is there a way to confirm it is slightly misaligned?

I wonder is the CNN HD transponder is towards the end of the range that the dishes pick up seeing as you had the same issue? Or does that even make sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,741 ✭✭✭Irishgoatman

I'm lucky that CNN is fine through my Tevion fta box until the weather changes!. Once it starts raining the reception starts breaking up.

I posted this problem sometime last year and was also told that the dish needed realigning but as all the other channels are ok I just decided to put up with it rather than messing with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 926 ✭✭✭decor58

Is there a way to confirm it is slightly misaligned?

When you press the INFO button on some units it shows programme info and signal info.

Only way to check whether misalignment is causing signal issues, is to move the dish while watching the effect on the signal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭FastFullBack

So my signal quality is quiet poor on nearly all frequencies, often around 50-70%. Signal strength is about 95%+ across the board.
For CNN HD at 11671 H 22000 5/6 the quality drops to 0.

So what are my steps to resolving. Is adjusting the LNB the best place to start?

Also I’m curious as to why this frequency is impacted so much compared to others?
