Too many interviews?

    Hi all

I'm midway through the application process for a job I'd love, and that fits my skills, that's based abroad. I have a query as to how often I've been interviewed for it and if you think that's a bit much.

My first interview was via Skype with the HR Manager, the recruiter for the company, and my potential section manager a few weeks back. All went well, and I was invited to a second round with the MDs.

There were some pretty serious connection problems that day, and it was quite a short interview with both MDs. I wrote it off as a no call back and got on with life.

Recently I was asked for a make up interview (which they didn't have to offer, so I was really pleased to get that) originally for Friday but now for Tuesday morning. On this occasion I would meet another section manager (I'd been asked would I be comfortable working with this section as well as the role on offer.)

    I just wonder.

Is three too many? Should I take the extra person I'm meeting as a positive sign?

From my own experience, three interviews is not unusual. I once had a 6 interview process. I had one phone interview, followed by one HR interview a week later and then four back to back one hour interviews with various managers/product leads about a week after that (that was intense).

The fact that you are still being interviewed means that they are still interested in you. That can only be a good sign.

Generally if you 'fail' any round then you're out. You've obviously progressed passed each one so far. Best of luck with it

For my current job I had 1 phone interview and 2 face to face. Considering the MD interview was cut short I wouldn't consider 3 in any way excessive.

    Current job was 2 interviews.
Had one before that they told me I had 2 more to do after the 3rd one (so 5 in total), I withdrew from the process saying that 5 is too many interviews. I had been offered another position at the time but would have withdrawn regardless.

I think 3 would be normal enough

    Two to three seems normal.

Anything beyond three is taking the p!ss in my opinion and I tend to lose interest in the position...

Smacks of a "we're amazing" culture

Abroad is meaningless, it entirely depends on the country and the culture of the company. For instance here in Switzerland the notice period is 3 to 6 months and no one is in a hurry, so you might not get an initial response for 6 weeks! The Swiss also like consensus, so if they are unsure about you, they might bring more people into the process rather than dismiss you outright.

If you indicate the country and the type of position you'll get better advice.

I had eight interviews for a job...! Two with recruitment agency, one with immediate boss, three with different panels and two with senior management. One of these was in social setting so not quite interview but was commented upon. I did get the job...(this was a semi state by the way)

I'm ordering is the addition of an extra person to meet a point of interest. That I could be being interviewed now for a totally different role.

Anyway. Having seen a few cries of eight here, three seems almost nothing! Thank you all!

Exactly, leads me to believe they're incapable of making a decision.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, interviewers chop and change from time to time.

Success, I've been offered the gig! Thanks to everyone for their advice

    Well done!

Last year, I had 7 interviews (4 on site, 3 calls with various US management layers) plus two written tests for an entry level management role and I didn't get it. Analysis paralysis, I think. None of the interviews were hard, they were very chatty. Mind you, a friend went for a director role in the same company years before and she had 11 rounds! Crazy.

    2-3 rounds are enough.

The two with the recruitment agency don't count.

But, the rest yeah... seems a piss take or someone wanting a free lunch and putting it down as an interview. :pac:
