    Hello,

While residential customers are expected to do all they can to conserve water, it seems that the DCC "in their wisdom" want to install 32 water jets at College Green.

If this proposal goes ahead, it will waste a hell of a lot of water.

What are Irish Water doing to prevent the DCC from proceeding with this crazy notion ?

click here if not familiar with the background to this

    Thanks,

    G.

Modern fountains recycle water. No need for the outrage.

Assuming the DCC go that route, it's still water being squirted up in the air and wasted.

    Thanks,

If it's recycled water (and I'm pretty sure it would be), then it's not really much water in the grand scheme of things. Plus, I'd say it'll look pretty.

Would you consider water spent cleaning the city wasted?

As far as I am aware, the water that sprays up from these, falls back down to the ground, into little drains, and is returned to it's starting point. Effectively, it's the same water being sprayed over and over again. Like a water fountain you'd buy in homestore and more. You fill it once, and walk away from it.

    Hi garrettod,

    Thanks for contacting us.

As the redevelopment of College Green is not an Irish Water project, it would be best to direct this query to Dublin City Council and An Bord Pleanala.

    Kind regards,
    Amy

Irish Water have nothing to do with this. That's like complaining to Ferrari because people who buy their cars are then driving in a manner that is wasting fuel.

Irish Water provide the service. DCC is a merely a customer.

You need to think of the wider picture. The amount of water (which will be recycled over and over again) that will be used is minuscule. However the jets are just one part of much larger project to make the College Green area much more attractive to the benefit of both locals and tourists. Attracting more tourists to the city by making it more attractive far outweighs the "cost" of a few hundred litres of water.

While I respect the later point you are making about tourists, I also find myself looking back towards the top of your post and thinking....

So whats different between that and the salesman selling someone with a gun across pointed he counter in parts of the USA ? ... no more than the sad incident that occurred in New York tonight, or the sad incident that happened in London a few weeks ago.  Hopefully you take the point.

    Thanks,

    G.
