We got Zurich out. Way cheaper on farm policies but miles out on vehicles. They wanted us to stay with fbd for vehicles and move to them for the rest. In the end we stayed with fbd as they kept the renewal at what we paid the year before with a few add ons.

friend of the older generation has a kid working with them, cant remember breakdown but the overall price was more expensive . insurance hikes seems to be a common theme

550 for the farm and sheds
    330 for the tractor
1200 for the car, indemnity is costing me 250.

All that with FBD and they did me a 'deal' as I have so much custom with them. If I didn't get the deal they may as well have spun me round and lubed me up I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭Justjens

Aviva, FBD haven't been able to come close to them in over 10 years.

€1850 I think last year for public liability, house and contents, three slatted sheds, hay barn and fodder/straw, cattle wandering and other liabilities, workshop and contents, emp libility up to €3k and 3 tractors TPF&T with windows on the Deer

people cant just throw up a price and not say whats included. try claiming and you wont be long finding out what your policy is like.

Jeez you have a deal and a half.

I paid FBD double your whole bill for just the Hilux.

True, but where do you stop?

Should we all throw up all the fine print as well - cos that's really where they'll catch you...

I think there is some value in putting up prices, even without details... at least you know the general run of prices, even if you can't compare details...

I agree John that with insurances there are limits to what you can afford to insure but to compare prices you need comparisons. You even need fair detail as well as older tractors are cheaper to insure than newer ones etc. What I found out this year was that if you had a second tractor and it was not insured if you had an accident on the farmland itself you were on your own. Even land vary's quotes and rented land insured,

    70 acre farm
    Livestock 60K
4 bay shed X 2 aile with Crush (400 sq Meter approx)
    Hayshed
    Mealbin
Public liability and employer liability (10K family and 5K non family)
two tractors both 80HP 27 year old 4WD and 20 year old WD
Dwelling house and old farm house that is done up

2K but after a lot of bargaining and serching all cars and van are seperate

Tractors were about 200 each but not sure of rest of detail

Have everything with FBD all machines, house, vehicles and buildings. It jumped by €600 but got it for the same price as last year which is €2,500 I also have contractor insurance including cover for hedge cutting which is always costly

Moved from FBD to Aviva a couple of years ago and saved nearly 1000 on the renewal.
    House
    90 acres
5 bay slatted unit with lean to
4 bay round roof shed with 2 lean to's
    5 bay open shed
    1 tractor 84, Fiat tp f&t
Public liability, employers liability and revenue commissioners investigation cover!! for 820.00
Another house (2 story/4 bed) on the farm is rented but Aviva would not insure it because it was rented so its insured with Zurich for 306.00 plus public liability.
Above is through a broker who we also have the vehicles and other property insured through.

o/h's cousin is married to a former area manager of fbd, he started his own brokerage a few years back, and has held about 60% of his previous (fbd) customers

AXA will be doing farm insurance as well,

Had Zurich out yesterday gave him my find policy. With them for 26 years. I said like for like on policy.
    FBD 1200
    Zurich 800

I'll be changing. Zurich guy said FBD will match it. We are all to be taken as fools.

I have to ask, what's normal for a farm? The normal house insurance for myself in Dublin is 1200, Are farms normally dearer or cheaper then city housing? Just curious.

My jeep policy is gone from 600 last year to 820 this year with insuremyvan . He said if I was named on an axa policy he could do alot better . I am and it just came down to 780 .
Is it worth trying anyone else that ye might know of ?
I'm only doing about 3000 miles a year in it and thinking its time I got rid if the insurance stays going up

My experience with Zurich says they're not pushing too hard for business.
We're long term perennial FBD clients. I rang Zurich last January for a quote to compare prices. Their rep only rang after the renewal date, 27/1, to arrange a call out.
So this Jan. Zurich rang me asking could they quote and scheduled a call out for the 25/1. I met the rep and showed him all the buildings, tractors and machinery, livestock, jeep, car and dwelling house. He took a lot of photos and machinery serial numbers too. He told me he'd have a figure the next day but I didn't hear from him.
FBD were holding the cover over and their rep was calling out yesterday, 29/1, so I rang Zurich at noon and said I wanted a figure within a few hours and before FBD arrived.
To cut to the chase, FBD left with a hefty sum and as i sit typing this I still don't have a figure from Zurich. Just a bunch of timewasters:mad::mad::mad:

is is normal for the insurance company to call out to work out a quote? we moved from FBD this year after years of business but the crowd we moved to quoted over the phone.

I think it’s optional but we’ve always had the rep call out and go through the levels of cover and amend if necessary, face to face.

It depends on what cover you're getting, if it's only public liability and livestock they wouldn't need to call but when you add sheds and machinery they need to see it. From my experience anyway.

Rep only ever call for first quote after that any changes and renewals are done over the phone.

I had a different experience with Zurich. I got delayed looking for a quote and rang on a Friday with cover out on Tuesday. He arrived on Monday after 2, went through yard and machinery and gave a quote after going over some details back in the house.

In the end, we got farm and house covered for less than the FBD farm quote.

Farm house values would generally be lower than urban houses so cover would be lower as well.

That €1200 would have our house and farm fully covered with a chunk of change left over to cover the tractor as well.

I was with FBD for 30 years, never had a claim or incident and when I objected to the price increase of €300 on my motor policy they offered me a €15 discount
Zurich quoted me €40 less than my original FBD premium. I'm with Zurich 3 years and they increased the premium by €35 last December.
Oh, I never received a letter from FBD confirming the cancellation of my policy.

same as that, Dad was with FBD for years, switched to Zurich through a broker a few years ago and it was way less than FBD.

Everything in the one policy which I really like, FBD put the tractors on a separate policy.
FBD branch manager rang me last week to quote and came in at 20 euro cheaper than Zurich but I told him after years of being ripped off they'd want to do better, he just said ok right and hung up...some businessman...
