Marriage is the word for starters.

    Are you in Ireland?

Go for divorce. Civil Annullment has rules. The burden of proof is higher than divorce.

5 years from when you split

Weird alright (to most people I'd imagine) but not illegal or anything. Not sure on the age bit though....

Did it happen before or after you married him?

Divorce is the separation option, if that is what you want.

It is illegal on age grounds. Seventeen is the age of consent in ROI, that is if it happened in ROI

    Taken seriously by the court.

Easiest option assuming there are no children in the marriage is to simply up and leave and go for divorce in 5 years. At two years there's probably very little financial input in it, so fairly easy to just up and out considering the reason.

If its a Catholic marriage, you probably will get a church annulment quite easily - a marriage in a church in Ireland is like two marriages, the church one and the official state one.

If religion matters to you, a church annulment is something to consider - it won't make a difference legally, but will allow you marry in a church should you wish to be married again.
