Just giving end users more reason to pirate.

GoT shows that if a show isnt practically available people will find other means.

What annoys me is Eir unlocked my phone officially and now I can't install the netflix app after a factory reset. I didn't even flash another rom until after the block and it was an official one.

My phone is rooted, so I can no longer see it in the Play store. Luckily I already have it installed.

Am very annoyed by it though. Looking into Magisk to hide root. Not willing to give up root.

No root for me yet just got an S8+. i actually did a restore from my Samsung account a couple of hours ago and netflix showed up. Lol. Guess will need to rely on APK mirror for updates. What I am confused about is how an unlocked non rooted phone from Meteor breaks googles drm.

No way this is going to last beyond the end of the week. Amazed it even got to go live in the first place.

Available to download for me even though my phone is unlocked?

    Unlocked <> Rooted.

With content downloading, I don't even know the technical reason behind the root-blocking. Doesn't make sense.

Unless there is some way that rooting can bypass geo-restrictions?

My Bootloader is unlocked, but I'm on official firmware, not rooted.

    No Netflix

HDCP bypassing I suspect. Very easy way to pirate content now that HDMI capture cards are a dime a dozen.

It's happening already with Netflix shows prior to the Pre-Download feature. So I don't get why they'd target this restriction of availability on phones. Doesn't sound like a practical means of ripping anything to me.

Yes but unlocked still causes problems for the Drm api on some phones. It's Googles doing apparently

OK, so does "unlocked" in this case just mean an "unlocked bootloader" or does it mean "used to be sim locked to a network but can now work with a sim from any network"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

They're separate things, but some OEMs trigger a bootloader unlock when the SIMlock is removed.

How will does it work? There's a Amazon Fire in the house which I put stock Android onto, removed root (apps now tell me it's not routed) but Sky Q still believes it is. I haven't found a way around it yet.
