Fulfilling a lifelong dream...

    Have you done yours?

Will you do it in the future?

Please God, I will fulfill mine in the next two years.

Since I was a yolk in the egg, I have wanted to go to Graceland:D Elvis and my real Dad are both mixed as one in my head. I was young and they both died around the same time . They were both big in my heart then and are big in my heart still. I have always cried over one or the other for years,

I would like to have gone to Graceland before all the commercialisation, but I was poor as chit so that was never gonna happen.

I still want to go though, for my Dad and for my heart and for the first time in my life its something I may be able to do in the next few years. Nashville too.....Johnny Cash and Merle, Willie, Waylon, Tammy and Dolly....I must go to Nashville......

I mind dogs now, I look after them well...I really love them to be honest. Every penny I make from looking after them I save for Elvis and Nashville. I make money and get great pleasure from my little dogs at the same time. They are going to help me fulfill my dream so I love them to death.

Do you have a lifelong dream?

    Have you already fulfilled it?

And Have any of you been to Graceland?

Your post has the word 'link' but no link in it.

As for my dogs. I cannot tell you how much pleasure they have given me and give me. Most of you only have your own dog so you know them. As a dog sitter, I get so many different ones. Just like humans they have different personalities. I would love to tell folk about them if they were interested.

My last one was a Diva....she had to be carried everywhere, she refused to go up and down steps with her Royal self....but I loved her for it...I actually cried after her as I had her over two weeks. She really was my baby.

The one I have now is only a year old and is a right boy! He is everything my Diva was not but I love him too...he is only a year old so a teenager in dog years. He is a little Jacker with a face like a fox......and he loves balls. Like he has about twenty balls, one even lights up:o For all hyperactivity, he likes nothing more than to curl up at my tummy to sleep at night. He is just a baby still really.

Best animals on earth they are. Being a dog sitter gives me a window into so many different personalities. Most of mine are repeat offenders and I truly love them to bits. I think dogs have become important to my well being:-)

I love elephants too though....those most gentle and loving of animals. I have no time for anyone who has no time for dogs or elephants:P

You know what Purple Rose...I was always indifferent to cats until I started reading the Animals and Pet forum on this site. Now, I have come to like them very much. I would not have one in the city but when I go back to the country I am definately getting a cat . Funnily enough, I was just reading and looking at the 'Rag Doll' Cats the other day...have you seen them? Oh My! They are beautiful! I watch a lot of the cat videos on Youtube too.

I have a neighbour who feeds feral cats and I do give her a few bits to give to them so I am not against cats. I am just a hardcore dog lover. I am slowly coming round to our feline friends though;)

The midwest USA gets really hot and really humid in the summer. 35degrees and 95% humidity means you don't spend much time outside. If it is possible go in the spring or autumn. Early spring is probably the cheapest time too.

    :)
    In Graceland, in Graceland
    I'm going to Graceland
    For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see
    Graceland
And I may be obliged to defend
    Every love, every ending
Or maybe there's no obligations now
Maybe I've a reason to believe
    We all will be received
    In Graceland

I have been to graceland about 4 times OP. I used to live a few hours away and Memphis, and Nashville, were the two liveliest cities within driving distance.
Memphis is a fun city to visit -not just for the elvis thing. A night on Beale street is a great night.

I hate the sun and heat so thanks for that InTheTrees. Elvis loved Graceland at Christmas so I may do it then but if not, it definately wont be at high season. Probably Spring as you say. Thank you:)

Thanks Tom. It really has been a dream for a long time. I know he is gone and its all commercialized now anyway but I love Elvis and he wasn't the worst. He had a very good heart so I really just want to go to his grave and cry:( And pay my respects.

It will be at least two years I'd say till I have enough to go. I mind dogs to raise the money. I love my dogs but sure I tend to give my money away so its slow going. I am afraid I will die without going so I am trying hard to save now. Hopefully within the next few years.

I am so looking forward to it Tom. I know I will cry.

Thankyou Winterlong. I am thinking of paying a guide. I want to go to the shack Elvis was born in too in Tupelo. I know all about Beale Street too. So much history in Memphis from Sun Studios to the Civil Rights Museum and where Rev Martin Luther King was shot. If you have any tips or insight, I would appreciate it. It will be a trip of a lifetime for me and a one shot deal...I dont want to waste a moment.

I never even went to college Persephone. I had a place at college but an awful turbulent home life so I never got to go. I was wandering the streets as a youngster with no guidance when I should have been at college chasing my dream. I applaud you getting your degree. I also once wanted to write....I still write but only in notebooks to myself :) I still read with a passion and I save every line from a poem, a book , or even a post from the net from the likes of you and me....any written word that appeals to me I write down. I love the written word.

I never wanted to act publically although I did and do act to cover my past and protect my own;)

As for the violin or the 'fiddle' as we call it. One of my oul' Grandads loved to play it. It is a fond memory for me. Fair play to you for learning it. It's one of only three instruments I wish I could play...the other two being the tin whistle and the Bodhrán. Between them three instruments, we have created some beautiful music in this country:)
