The Grand Prix of Indianapolis this evening. The lead up GP to the 500 in two week's time.

Montoya, Chilton, Rossi, Bourdais, Sato... Los of very familiar ex-F1 drivers. Should be a good first corner.

Is this on any of the satellite channels or Internet stream.?

Is this the same track they use use for MotoGP? It doesn't use the oval turn 1 the way F1 did.

Montoya not painting his helmet to save 8oz weight, make it a bit easier on his neck, hard to imagine it would make any big difference, bit silly

That was bit uneventful with a full green course to the chequer. Decent speed by Power all the same and fair play to Dixon for making the overtakes.

Seems like Alonso can drive the car, quickest in rookie and refresher test.

I really like the number 29. Ooh and check out Helios No. 3 - the livery is of the classic Miller gold theme. This time round it's sponsorship from Shell (not sure if Shell were involved in the last livery?). I'll post a pic when the media have caught up.

Here's the entry list for The 500.

    ENTRY LIST

Just caught the end of the practice session there, Alonso was 17th in the top speed list. Just over 0.5s slower than Marco. Not too shabby. Although Chilton was 10th I think. :D

Marco at 18/1 has to be worth a punt? He's been close a few times...

    Alonso 13/2fav. What a joke.

Helio's had Shell on the car at Indy in some form since 2011. This year, the gold is indeed a throwback to the Miller one - which was a Penske car for Danny Sullivan - to promote their fuel rewards program.

Joke indeed. I'd say he's more of a 25/1 or higher shot. While he has the car control and expertise, how he handles the traffic on race day might be an issue. He'll probably end up finishing well, but the day as a whole will be uneventful, just like when Kurt Busch did it in 2014.

Where are yous getting odds? Can't find any myself. Alonso is hilariously under-priced which means I'm definitely having a nibble at someone else if I can get prices.

So, peeps who have been watching on BT all this year - have these blokes on the commentary been there all year, or is this just for Indy? Really weird not having Bestwick/Cheever/Goodyear (as terrible as they are)

Savage Alonso, just savage. So close to the wall. Hope he'll be in the top 9 by the end of qualifying.

Cant believe nobody tipped Carpenter, he always manages to nail the 4 lap quali but seems to get bad luck in the race.

Hoping SeaBass is ok, heart sank a bit watching that.

Nothing but impressed by how Alonso has fast tracked into Indy formula. Being favourite if so is ridiculous.

I think Power might do it this year, since becoming a dad he seems to be racing more consistently, although it can all be the luck of the fuel/yellow draw.

IndyCar career ending possibly. He's never been the biggest fan of ovals. Think he might switch to sports cars full time.

I was gonna stick some money on him for the win this year., glad I couldn't find odds now. :pac:

**** injuries to get but a few years ago without either HANS or SAFER it could easily have been fatal.

Thought the exact same, especially going in at that speed/angle. He's a lucky boy.

Just shows how dangerous it is. F1 looks like a kids formula in comparison though still not a fan at all of oval.

Only seen it today on the news. He is very lucky that was a big crash. Hope he makes a full recovery and can get back to racing but for now I think he will have to take a year out of it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

He's definitely out for the season. During morning practice Coyne himself was on the radio broadcast for a bit and said that in the hospital this morning SeaBass was joking with him that he wanted to be back in the car for Sonoma, and Dale was saying hello no, he'll need the extra off-seasons months for more recovery.

Meanwhile, the Aussie James Davison has been announced as the replacement for the 500.

Nope. ESPN3 only in the States until 9, then the world feed starts on BT ESPN.

There's a YouTube stream for pre-qualifying practice, but that's over now and the stream is just freezing.
Actual qualifying isn't on YouTube I think. Although I did find a stream yesterday on YouTube that was in Spanish.

I wonder how much difference the wobble at the end of the first lap made. Outstanding stuff though it has to be said.

that "poor" first lap could cost Alonso

Alonso starts 5th, fair play to him. It was close as well, he was closer to 2nd than 6th time-wise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Alonso went and we thought "might have a shot".
Then Rossi went and we thought "ooh, this is gonna be tight at the top".

Then Dixon went and we all just went holy sh?t.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,028 ✭✭✭H3llR4iser

Setting up to be an interesting race - Sunday will be a full afternoon after the Monaco GP.

Alonso definitely has a shot, although this is the Indy 500 - we've seen crazy and more in the past, like last year's Rossi win with no fuel whatsoever remaining, and cars coming back from being a lap down to take the flag.

ESPN player seems to be available in Ireland, Irelands on the list anyway.

I have to wait until tomorrow before I can buy, but its €6 for the race. Seems like a good deal.

just bought this and got it running on ipad.
although seen a review saying they dont do side by side for ad breaks which is disappointing.
Big benefit is on demand, just watched the Indy Lights race, during ad breaks you could watch and hear the race sound without the comms. Presume its not same live though.
Funny at the end. They just put the mic down and left it on.
