It's priced pretty well to be fair. Those focus diesels are a minefield though, I can't see the appeal beyond the price.

Gulp, a minefield in what way? I thought fords were reliable? (lamb to the slaughter house here lol)

Would you recommend any diesel car less than 3500e, and above 2006?
Would consider petrol too but I could be doing 500kms a week.

I'd go for a Kia Ceed/ pro Ceed or a Hyundai i30 every time over a Focus.

    Here's a rough filter

The 1.6 tdci if neglected can be problematic although it's always the horror stories that muddy the water, these engines are very fuel efficient and can reach high mileage reliably if serviced correctly.

Your one looks as though it has been looked after and given your "Gulp" has been trouble free for you.

Your price would be below average price for a Focus that year/mileage especially wirh new 2 year NCT. You've had a lot of views, but perhaps it's too low a price that people think there's something wrong with it.

What you need to do is list more service items that have been done to the car.
When was it last serviced? When were brakes changed? Has dpf been changed//regenerated?
Also a pic of the service history would definitely sell it if it is fully serviced.

The fact is that it is a high mileage car and will take time to sell. In general, its a slow time to sell cars at the moment.

Also worth mentioning that Focus a UK import and no mention of service history.

I think the OP is buying, not selling.

In fairness to me, the OP's first post was not clear!

I've had an eye on this for the last month OP - the NCT wasn't always 2 years, it has been put through the NCT in recent weeks.

I'm far from an expert, but the interior will tell a lot. From the pictures posted, it looks like it could indeed be a low mileage vehicle as the levels of wear look low.

Your looking at the same engine from the Focus but in a different car.

Funny that lol.. I've been reading up about the 407 and have seen some bad reviews. Everyone seems to say go for the octavia.

Problem is in the price range your looking at, most Octavias will have hefty mileage on them and/or are ex taxis.

Yes, I noticed.. No point looking for diamond in the rough. Not that lucky lol.. Looking at honda civics now. Gone back to petrol again. 1.8 post 2008 hopefully.

You might want to post your requirements, annual mileage, budget, etc. It might help get some suggestions. If you don't actually need or have use for a diesel car then my advice is stay away from them. They are more complex than petrol cars and at that end of the market there tends to be more dogs for sale than good ones.

Yeah, sorry for not being clear. That was my fault.

    Budget: 2k-3.5k
    Mileage annual: 15k-20k
    Petrol
Post 2005 would be nice, but only because of insurance companies.
Insurable, since I am coming back into the market after a 4 month hiatus. 4 years no claims. 6 years driving experience. 30 years old.

That's the same engine as is in the Focus. They really need to be maintained properly and on time. Chances are it's been looked after if it has a full Pug history, but I'd still have major reservations buying a 407 regardless of how well it's been minded. They are a very comfortable car and they're very well equipped though.

I love the fake news going on here.

Here is empirical research from the NCT showing the top 3 cars most likely to pass are Toyota VW and Ford, based on 10 year old models.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/environment/what-s-the-most-reliable-car-in-ireland-1.2073954?mode=amp

While here is the JD Power survey on reliability where again Ford is top of the chart while Hyundai is at the bottom of the chart.

To be warned off Fords that's just silly!

This seems perfect for me both tax and insurance wise.. What does everyone think of the price, also will it do upto 500kms a week every two weeks..?

Just to add that Fords are good cars! Its just that 1.6 diesel engine that gives bother. That same engine is in loads of other cars like Citroen, Peugeot and Mazda.

Just to point out that your article ref NCT is about cars from 2005, which would be old school Hyundais like Accent, Getz, Trajet, old type Santa Fe etc which were nowhere as good as the newer generation of cars like the i20 or i30. You'd also need to look at the demographic of people NCTing 05 Hyundais where many would be run on a shoestring.

I didn't say all Fords are bad, or all Hyundais are good, what I'm saying is that a Mk2 Focus in diesel form be it 1.6 or 1.8 is best avoided.

A relative of mine has a used car garage, where he mainly sells UK imports, good ones with full history usually direct from main dealers - He obviously gets a lot of Focuss as they're so cheap in the UK, When the mk2 was still reasonably new they were costing him a fortune on warranty work (stood over the cars himself rather than using 3rd party warranties)

I know a good few people with i30s, including some I've sold myself and they've proven to be very low maintenance and reliable. They do have their issues of course, the most common being the clutch pressure plate - but it's a cheap fix and you get plenty warning (the mothers has been on the way out for the last 18 months for example)

    My 2cents worth here.

My focus is a 2009 UK import.

Been in Ireland since it was 12 months old.

It's the same engine as mentioned in the OP.

    Nct 04/2019
    Tax 04/2018

A dealer recently offered me €5500 as a trade in.

    Finance fell through

The engine needed loads of things doing such as inlet manifold seals, injector seals, rocker cover gasket.

Now the car is back to perfect health.

Since it was purchased by us in January 2016 it has a main dealer stamped service history.

Have to change it now though as I've 4 kids.

    6 into 5 won't work.

I've never driven a car that was so good on diesel though.

What you think of this colm, I know the milage is high but seems like good value considering service history.

No I was saying I'd have a Ceed over a 1.6 or 1.8 diesel Focus.

The Hyundai and Kia have 1.6 and 2.0 options, the 1.6 is the one to get.

The 18 inch alloys would put me right off, we have 17s on ours and they're bordering on crashy. I'd get one on 16 inch wheels if possible, 17 at a push, but 18s will make shoite of the suspension in no time.

That one has the optional ms-design lip kit on it, which looks well on them. Seems to be missing one of its exhaust trims.

I see. Thanks for the advice. These are things I wouldnt know of, do not really have anyone to turn to for advice either. I do appreciate it. :pac: The i30 looks like a beautiful car. I may look up north for one.

In relation to Ford Focus I have had one for the past 6 years and overall my experience has been fairly good. It's a 2008 1.6 tdci and currently has 250k miles on the clock!!!!!
A few things had to be fixed over the past year. Injector seals, alternator, glow plugs, instrument cluster.
The focus is comfortable, nice to drive and very good on diesel. 55 mpg. I'm considering changing mine for a 2011-12 focus.

OP - my wife may be selling her 2007 Octavia shortly. It's in good condition. Regularly serviced. PM me if your interested.
