Work & Disability - New Bill 10.05.17

I am receiving Disability Allowance so this bill is of interest to me.

If I decided to take on a full time job and keep some (or all) of my DA payments, travel card, etc, won't the Dept. of Social Protection assume (Perhaps quite rightly) that I am capable of working full time and therefore no longer qualify for Disability Allowance?

You have your payments and travel card?

What payments are you referring to?

Disability allowance you said you were worried about being cut off if you get a job?

Yes, I am in payment of DA, I thought that was clear.

The question is whether by starting a full time job under the new rules in this bill, I would still eligible for DA if I showed myself capable of doing a full time job...

I thought the whole point of DA is to help those who CANNOT work?

People on Disability Allowance are already able to work and claim. It seems to be just a relaxing of the rules.

No it's not clear when a few days ago you said you were waiting for payment to start after an appeal had been allowed.

    About three threads down.

This is obviously a Turas Nua style way of shunting those on DA into menial jobs.

As someone has pointed out, once a DA recipient starts full time work they will be medically assessed and magically lose their allowance.

It disgusts me to be honest; it really is the modern form of the work/poor house.

    Varadkar is Bertie lite.

Please try to focus on the discussion taking place in this thread and not with previous threads which have no bearing on this discussion.

Whether I have received my arrears or not is not relevant to the question of whether someone who is receiving DA will still be eligible for DA if they show they are capable of full time work by starting a full time job.

Is it a relaxing of the rules or is it a way to entice people on DA into work and then at some stage cut off their payments because they are then are no longer eligible for the payment?
