Enjoying this now. I saw series 1, but you don't need to have seen it IMHO

I saw series 1 and it was good but didnt know if I should watch series 2. I think I might like this series better.

All episodes are available on BBC Iplayer - I really wish they would make this available in ROI.

I'd agree it's a standalone series you wouldn't have needed to have seen the first series to watch this.

Although Top of the Lake is well worth watching as it's a very good series.

Great performances and great cinematography in a very messy story where 90% of what the characters do makes no sense whatsoever, for example rather than do something about Puss pimping Mary Robin and Pike have sex instead (and not just a quick shag to relieve the stress but a night of giggling fun), Robin does not attempt to contact airport security to stop Mary leaving, the experienced coroner who realise the mismatched DNA means the dead girl was a surrogate, etc. And why was Mary's mental illness* completely overlooked (*there was no other explanation for her character).

And I can't for the life of me figure out why Nicole Kidman signed onto this role. She had no meaning to the story whatsoever.

I though Season 1 was quite poor, I didn't make it to the end.

Is season 2 worth a watch?

If you think Season 1 was "poor" then I can't imagine you finding any value in China Girl.

Just my opinion there, but I'd never be so bold as to tell someone they'd shouldn't watch a TV show or movie.

Giving up on this. The characters are just too bizzare to be credible or are they just too Australian ? Either way, they are all a bit odious in their own way.:D
