I would like to cut these trees to maybe half their current height and width and also cut them into a more conical shape. Do you think this is possible without them looking hacked? Also is it possible that they will be more brown than green in the centre?
    Thanks.

i think you're out of luck - they look like cypresses, and once you cut past the outer layer of green into the brown, you won't get any greenery there again.

Either keep them or loose them.
As said above they can't be pruned hard as they don't regrow from old wood.

There is s certain amount of lee way but as mentioned do not cut back to the old wood. You could shape them over the next few years to make and then maintain them in a more conical shape but more or less at their current size. And trim once a year to maintain at that size thereafter.

You could cut tops so they don't get taller and then shape them so that there is space between them.
More of a manicure than a cut. The could be shaped.
Slightly reduce in size and then maintain that size through time.

Thanks all for the advice. Might try to reduce and shape....if it doesn't work I can always get rid of them....They are apparently there 40 years so slow growers.

You will be terribly exposed if you get rid of them. They're really not the worst.
