Round 1 of Europe, everyone should have a lot of update and every team except of McLaren will be doing a lot of laps on Friday to test them. :D

    C_XvRdgXsAAqBYY.jpg:small

Friday Grand Prix first practice Sky Sports F1 09:00
Friday Grand Prix second practice live Sky Sports F1 4 13:00
Saturday Grand Prix third practice live Sky Sports F1 10:00
Saturday Grand Prix qualifying live Sky Sports F1 13:00
Sunday Grand Prix live Sky Sports F1 13:00

We will see if Mercedes or Ferrari will be stronger after the first rounds of updates, will RedBull catch up and will the first win motivate Bottas to a streak like Häkkinen did when he finally started winning?

    Broadcasting notes.
Sky Sports are doing their usual thing.
This is not a live race on Channel 4.
Eir Sports are showing Fp1 live but FP2 is deferred until 10:30pm because they have live cricket of all things. However the deferral has its advantages as Eir tends to pause coverage during ad breaks so you don't miss anything unlike when it's live. All other sessions are live.

    This too shall pass.

Hopefully Red Bull can close the gap to Ferrari and Mercedes. It would be great if there was more than two drivers in the championship race.

Ferrari have gone retro with their car numbers:

Last years poll was 1:22.00 HAM , and Kyvat had fastest lap 1:26.948 , I wonder if the Upgrades will provide a big enough Jump in time over them. More than the 2 sec we have been seeing in the previous races

Alonso stopped on track already in a cloud of smoke, I keep thinking it can't get any more embarrassing. Wrong I guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Joeface

1 lap is shockingly bad. Appears someone didn't tighten something , Autosport have it up that the car just dumped fluids and that was it.

You could see the engine just sort of blow up in a cloud of smoke, seized all the hydraulics and dumped all the fluids. It was pouring out of the back when they lifted the car with the forklift

So Alonso is not coming back from Indy Car I take it? It is reaching beyond comical levels at this point. Why would you even bother turning up to the track if you were Alonso or Van Doorne.

They seem to be getting worse, which is an accomplishment I guess.

Pole was last year 1:22 and Hamiltons time now already 1:21.5

So Ferrari a second off Mercedes and Red Bull only a tenth off Ferrari. On first evidence it would appear Mercedes & Red Bull upgrades have brought some big performance gains, Ferrari not yet but are they sandbagging

All used their hard tyres, where they have two sets. One for Friday morning and one to hand back unused after the race.

I was looking at some stats for the Spanish GP, and the last ten races had ten different winners.

    2007: Massa

    2008: Raikkonen

    2009: Button

    2010: Webber

    2011: Vettel

    2012: Maldonado

    2013: Alonso

    2014: Hamilton

    2015: Rosberg

    2016: Verstappen

Could Bottas be a new winner here this year? Well he certainly has a good chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,467 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

    That's a pretty cool stat

Vettel has a water leak, Ferrari having to change his engine as we speak. Desperately trying to get it done before qualy

Bottas also had some issues last night, only got a few laps in P3 after two engine changes

Pirelli lowering the tyre pressure limit today, which should improve performance, less sliding around than yesterday, did see Ferrari do a bit better this morning

I liked Damon Hill back in the day, but he's not a great analyst.

He reckons Renault are putting all the resources into Hulk's car, that explains why Palmer is so rubbish...

It's plausible in F1 but doesn't change the fact that Palmer is still rubbish up against Hulk

Well that was almost a massive screw up with Ferrari. A lesser driver might have just said "okay I turn it off now", they are lucky they have Vettel in that car

Shows how tough that final sector is. All the top 4 drivers were significantly up on the pole time heading into the final sector (Hamilton more than .2) up and all lost a huge chunk before crossing the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Let's just let this sink in for a minute, both Force Indians and both Williams were beaten today by a Honda.

Also, imagine if Vettel had followed instructions to park it up. Should be interesting tomorrow.

Amazing job by Alonso to get that Honda into Q3 and then into 7th. Thinking maybe Alonso heading to America after this now for the Indy 500 and missing out on Monoco might not be the best time but you can,t blame him. Maybe that and being at his home race just inspired him even more to just drive the absolute b,alls off that Honda. It was great seeing the Honda crew smiling. Hope he gets to finish in the points tomorrow.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yes, Eir Sport 1 carry the C4 (F1 world feed) commentary for the session i.e. from 5 mins before the session starts.

What's annoying is that Eir Sport 1 is not in HD, unless I'm missing something??
