Continually lighting oil fired range.

I've recently moved into a house with an old Stanley oil fired range. The advice when we moved in was to keep it lit all the time because it's difficult to light and it's bad for it to turn it on and off all the time.

It went out a couple of weeks later and I relit, which was very easy. Now I've turned it off cause of the recent weather.

I'm wondering if it's actually bad to light it regularly or if that's some kind of myth? There'll be days and nights when we want it lit I'm sure!

Can you post a pic of it? How do you light it and turn it out?

Can't post a pic, not at home for a day or two. Think it's a Stanley errigal.

Turn the control all the way up and stick a match into a small hole in a cylindrical burner.
