    Hi
I'm currently working in an afterschool club which is closing for the summer. I'm just wondering would I be entitled to claim from the social welfare for the two months that we are closed? thanks!

Do the afterschool club not pay you 12 months wages, but in 10 installments?

Wouldn't be abnormal for an afterschool club to close during summer, but some would just expand the service offering. The community childcare subvention scheme would view the operation as a 12 month operation in their payments.

I would say to you to be careful when you put in the claim as the most fatal mistake you can make with the Department of Social Protection is to assert that you relied on them. You will always come across a case where they award someone a payment, but have to claw it back a few months later. It is never a defence to say you relied on them and gave them all they wanted, so it is their mistake etc etc. That type of thing doesn't exist in their world.

You are entitled to claim for the summer months when you are temporarily layed off. Lots of educational sector workers claim during the summer as well as during mid term if they arent paid for that period.

Yes, there's a special person usually assigned for education related closures including claims from school wardens, canteen workers etc.

Are we sure that the afterschool club is not paying her 12 months wages (but in 10 installments)?

OP will be given a form specifically for educational sector workers for their employer to complete.
