Avensis diesel usage

    Hi. I have 2011 6 speed diesel avensis and recently I noticed it seems to be using a lot of diesel. The computer on my dash would go from 190km remaining in tank down to 186km but I would have only travelled 2 and half km maybe less. It is serviced regularly. Also there seems to be a noise when in high gear and picking up speed. But it goes when you travel steady. It just comes when you take your foot off accelerater and pick up speed again especially up hill. Its sounds like a tractor.

    How many km are you getting from a full tank. Range indicators are the the most reliable things.

    It may be something or it may be nothing.
    I suggest you find out how much the car is using by filling it up fully and driving normally. Set the tripmeter to zero.

    Once the fuel is almost gone fill it up again and take note of how far you have travelled and also how many litres it took to fill it back up.

    This will give you a measurement of how many litres it took to travel the distance. You can then use an online calculator to find your usage

    You can try this or use another, there's many out there.

    Is it quite smokey? The nozzles on the injectors on that year of Avensis are known for wear (so much so that you can visually see it when they are out), this can cause overfuelling and abnormal spray patterns which may be the issue that you're having - using too much diesel and sounding like a tractor (knocking?).
