I know that windshields are made of laminated safety glass so that they don't usually shatter. Does this go for the side windows in a car as well, or are there many common vehicle types where the glass could shatter and cause an injury?

No, all other windows are safety glass which breaks in to small pieces, no shards

Side windows are supposed to shatter into a million pieces. If they remained whole it would hinder emergency crews from getting in to rescue you.

The many many pieces are not supposed to be sharp (not very anyway).
