Thailand in July

    Hi all,

    Myself and the other half are heading for Thailand at the start of July for 15 days and we are looking to build up an itinerary for our trip. We have a hotel booked for 5 nights in Bangkok and we will then look to move on from there to the other wonders that Thailand has to offer.

    We aren't really into drinking or all night partying. We're more into good food, nice scenery, historic places of interest and some fun activities.

    Was just wondering what would be ideal for us in July other than Bangkok. We like the look of Chiang Mai and a couple of the Eastern Islands such as Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Also, what would be the most ideal way to travel from Bangkok to each.

    Many thanks,

    Colin.

    Do a day trip to Ayutthaya from Bangkok. Temples galore. Phenomenal!

    As you are spending 15 days and already planning 5 in Bangkok then you are probably limited to 2 other places.

    You mentioned Chiang Mai and definitely would recommend 4 or 5 nights there it's a great place to chill out in. The markets are good, full of temples if you are interested in them, can go to elephant santuries, also would recommend doing a cookery class. You can fly up (40 mins) or get train from Bangkok. I flew a few years ago as it was very cheap.

    From chiang mai go to one of the islands you mention. This time you need to fly as distance is far.

    I spent nearly three weeks in Thailand in the below places;

    * Bangkok (2 nights and overnight train to)
    * Chiang Mai (5 nights and flew to Surat Thani via Bangkok and then bus/ferry to)
    * Koh Tao (5 nights and ferry to)
    * Koh Samui (4 nights and fly to)
    * Bangkok for the last night

    I wasnt gone on Koh Samui, much preferred Koh Tao. We stayed in a cheap resort but it was perfect, clean and a couple minute walk to the beach. We rented a scooter for the few days and just went exploring. Loved it there.

    Also loved Chiang Mai, would limit your time in Bangkok and few some of the rest of the country.

    The travelling from Chiang Mai to Koh Tao was a full day, two flights, a bus and a ferry. It was tough going, I would advise flying direct to Koh Samui and getting the ferry from there. More expensive but worth it after doing it the other way.
