You can of course, but the level of work involved would usually make it uneconomical to do so.
The 06 A4 had 1.9 and 2.0 options so it's certainly possible once you swap enough bits over.

You could fit a 1.0 engine from a Polo if you wanted to and had enough skills and time on your hands.

The 1.9 in the polo would be a better job...

I once was in a car where a lad put a 2.2 integra engine into a civic...I can still smell the oil burning outta it :pac:

(Late 90 models iirc....don't ask me anymore info as I don't know)

Not as bad as the lad I shared a house with in the 80s his Aul fella had a P6 Rover with a Nissan Laurel diesel engine, as rough as a bears arse, the racket was unbearable!!

They did it themselves in fairness and managed to keep the Rover box with overdrive. I showed them the rudimentary lpg kit we had in a mk2 Cortina which was returning good running costs for the time, they'd never heard of lpg, it certainly would have made a nicer car out of that P6

If you already knew the answer, why did you ask?

    Nah he didnt :pac:

Twould either be a prelude or accord engine, and a totally different operation to swapping different generation engines around VAG models.

Honda engines of the 90s are nearly all interchangeable, thats why theres so many hondas with engine swaps done - its a doddle.

Oil burner or not - I bet it was quick :D

I knew a dude once who destroyed the engine in his Datsun 260Z and replaced it with the diesel engine from a Nissan urvan van. You would wanna hear that thing howl. It made more noise than a Saturn 5 rocket and was slower than a kitten in syrup.
