Emissions failed with Catalytic Converter and Dipetane

Failed NCT emissions a year ago, put a catalytic converter in and it passed.

Roll on this year's NCT and the car failed. I tried the Dipetane approach and it still failed.

The car is 12 years old, in good working order except for the emissions. Is this the end of the road for the car as I already have the cat converter in?

If I had to sell who would buy a car with no NCT? Garages?

What car is it? I'm assuming you serviced it with new oil, oil filter, spark plugs and air filter just before the NCT? If so then perhaps a new O2 sensor would cure the problem. How far out were the emission levels? A good hard/high revving drive right before the NCT gets the car good and hot and working to its optimum also.

What exactly did you fail on, put up the details, also whats the car.

There could be something that is causing the cat to go. So with the new one last year it passed but whatever has caused it to go has done it again, another new one might get you through the test, or could pick one up cheap in the scrappy.

Same happened me on my last car, I regret not just putting the new cat on for the test and sticking old one back on to keep the new one good.

    Audi A4

    Engine/Oil Temperature 110C

    Low Idle
    CO 0.30 vol%
    HC 34 ppm

    High Idle
    Lambda 1.00
    CO 0.31 vol%
    HC 47 ppm

Did you change oil, filter and spark plugs before the NCT? Your just above the level in the high idle by 0.01 so it shouldn't b too hard to get it to drop under 0.30. A roasting before the NCT (drive 5kms in 3rd gear at high revs) should do it.

Was it a new or second hand cat?

With CO level marginally high, I'd check for exhaust leaks and make sure you have a fresh air filter in with no leaks on the ducting as it will affect the maf reading

To go along with the above post, was it a spurious cat? They dont seem to last as long as oem
