Sand after 1st coat paint?

Hi there, Prepped the walls with Polyfilla and sanded. Thought i had completed nicely, but when the first coat has been painted on, i see a lot of imperfections. Is it ok to heavily sand on the areas where there's hollows/ bumps etc to get a smooth wall? My worry is that im pretty much now just sanding off the first coat…

Hi there,

Is it ok to heavily sand on the areas where there's hollows/ bumps etc to get a smooth wall? My worry is that im pretty much now just sanding off the first coat so when i add the second coat, it may look strange?
