Barcelona for a city break and the coast down as far as Alicante. One thing I would advise though if it;s your first foreign trip: it's going to be be bloddy hot (obvious, I know; but you think you're preared for it...)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

It's spain. Not the sahara. Chances are it'll be overcast with showers.

Sunny beach bulgaria, euro a pint. 3 euro dinners. Great beach. Taxi drivers are dodgy as **** though.

No context provided at all. My dream holiday would always be a swanky hotel in a great city. None of this sun bathing stuff. Booring.

Tunisia & Turkey have some reasonable packages. Guaranteed heat.

I did a city break in Barcelona and then on down the coast (about an hour by train) to Salou for a relaxing few days. That was a lovely holiday!

Found Salou fairly grim tbh. Barcelona lovely, of course.

This can be a daunting exercise for some people and I would be inclined to research the issue well before going anywhere. On a first trip it might be best to limit yourself to a 7 day holiday if possible in Spring or Autumn to avoid crowds and overbearing heat.

While some people like a lot of heat and can make the most of it others can't.
Simple basics, learn how to swim if you don't already know how and take long walks to get your fitness levels up. I don't swim well and am not very fit and would find a beach holiday a challenge for this reason. Dry weather allows people to walk for miles each day which can be nice if your feet are up to it.

Talk to other people who have already travelled for advice on clothes...the stuff we wear in Ireland would be too warm for most Spanish resorts and you will find footwear a problem unless you get sandals and such like now and wear them in before the holiday, there is nothing worse than blisters on new footwear in the middle of a weeks holiday. Also continental footwear tends to be a bit on the narrow and small size for Irish people.

Do not ignore blisters, cuts, bites etc.... Buy a small first aid kit with antiseptics and wipes to look after these as they occur and wash feet with salty water frequently...change socks frequently during the day if walking a lot and not used to it at home.

Water..... drink a lot of it and keep a bottle or two in a small bag with you at all times during the day. You will be amazed at how much you will get through on hot days in Spain.

Food and drink? Spain has good food and serves Irish, British etc people very well, one of the complaints heard is that a person can go the entire holiday eating the food of their own country if they want to. If you like italian or Chinese etc you will have no problem with eating well. Try to bulk up on salads and other low calorie foods as you will not need the starchy calories people are used to eating in Ireland, also keep drink to the minimum, the locals in Spain are commendably modest in their drinking habits and like their guests to be the same. The very hot weather is ferociously unforgiving to an unplanned hangover.

I'd second that sunny beach by a mile. Always ask price before u get in they can be very expensive.
