Skyscanner is never reliable for me. Seems I can het a Philippines airline flight from Heathrow to manila in 14 hours. Maybe that's gonna be ny best option but what do you guys think who have already been there? I don't necessarily need to fly into manila..anywhere in phil will do. I'll be flying on to brisbane then after. I can fly to darwin then brisbane. Just getting to Philippines seems like a tough one.

    Why is it tough?

I connected through Hong Kong, but sure you can do it through the Gulf or numerous Asian hubs like SIN, BKK or KUL.

Well skyscanner didn't bring any of then into play.

I've been to Singapore and bkk before. I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to go again and meet old friends.

I was hoping to do it all cheap..including ending up in brisbane.

However 14 hours from Heathrow on Philippine airlines sounds horrendous when websites say they have below average leg room. I'm 192cm....

Should be decent connections to Cebu too, just flew home from there recently. You can fly Dublin-Dubai-Cebu I'd you want short flights.

Have a look at kiwi.com if you want cheap, we got home for less than 300 each but it took a lot of hours!

Dubai to cebu sounds good. I don't mind stopping off in connecting cities for a day or two to be a tourist.. great opportunity to tick off countries I've been to. Only home from connecting in dubai...depressing, soulless place at best.

I may however use that route as it beats 14 hours on one plane from London for me.

I'll put cebu into kayak and skyscanner instead of manila and see what I come up with.

I flew KL to Coolangatta Gold Coast airport on a very cheap one way fare with Air Asia back in 2009, so worth checking the current routes operated by the Asian low cost carriers.

I didn't consider coolangata as it struck me as an non international airport a few weeks ago.

In sure I'll figure out an acceptable route. I'm kind of hoping for an excuse to explore kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong:)

How's out using secretflying to find a cheap flight to an Asian hub then booking my other flights separate?

I flew from Hong Kong to Angeles (just north of Manila) for something like €40. Sky Scanner will show these flights but not when you add in a connection like Dublin, usually.

Etihad via UAE was fine for me. Why Philippines out of interest?

Hi guys since posting I have booked my flights and i have added in 4 days in Hong kong.

I must connect in London and then a 12 hii layover in Delhi. In happy as I can go out and explore Delhi for a few hours then off to hk. I'll fly into manila.

I have internal flights booked to see borocay, cebu, el nido etc....

To answer the why Philippines question. I have Filipino Friends in manila and the country is beautiful. Many people think of only the thai islands and Bali. They would be surprised to see Filipino islands are just as beautiful.

Do you have a visa to enter Delhi?

Nice in parts alright but very hard to get around. Infrastructure is horrendous. Stay away from Borocay. Filipinos love it but I thought it was awful. Loved Puerto Gilero. Palawan is also nice (I hear but didn't make it there).
In Manila try not to goto Makati (it is a souless place). Down by Manila Bay is a cool spot or else Malati was good fun (with much nicer people than Makati).

Banaue is a good trip where we did a 3 day hike.

Be prepared for alot of begging, poor service in restaurants and petty taxi drivers. Goto local markets rather than malls if possible.

Nice country alright and alot of English spoken.Keep your wits about you

Why did you think boracay was awful? I know it's supposed to be too touristy now and alot of nightlife but I will enjoy that. I'm only there for 1 week from the 4 so its ok.

I'll be with Filipino Friends most of the time so I'm sure they will be giving me good advice. Any more advice?

Dirty, full of beggars*, full of hawkers that will not give you a moments peace.
I was there in the off season so maybe they clean it up a bit during the on season. Scuba diving was ok but not the best part of Philippines for that.

*While you are having dinner in a restaurant you will be approached numerous times for money.
