Im thinking of buying myself a few golf clubs, so that I know how to swing them and hit the ball

I spent years caddying, but im out of the scene for 10years

Im thinking of buying big bertha 7wood, a 7 iron, sandwedge and putter

think I saw sergio garcia on the late late show saying he thought that was enough to have

any comments ? how do the big berthas from 15years ago compare to the whatever is all the rage today clubs ?

All clubs have improved over the last 15 years but I wouldn't worry about that.  A 7 iron, 3 wood and pitching wedge (of any age) will get you started.

You can pick up decent sets on Adverts for next to nothing. That way you'll get a full set of irons a few woods and putter all in one go and can upgrade when you see fit.

What you suggested is fine to get you started. If you are going to play a lot and practice then I'd go for a 5 wood, 6 iron, 8 iron, pitching wedge, sand wedge and putter. That will give you a bit less gaps in distance between your clubs. Yes you may find the 5 wood and 6 iron harder to hit than the 7 wood but with practice and time you should get over that.
