    Hi,
Want to know if this BMW 1-series is the current or previous model? I struggle to tell from the photos and it looks to be on the cusp of the switch 2011/2012.

Also interested in hearing people's experiences with same model. Torn between this, volvo v40 and vw scirocco as things stand for replacement for my 15 year old Golf.

    Thanks

I was behind a 171 1 series earlier today and thought the rear lights were different to the one linked. Don't know much about them or your other choices but if I was you I'd be looking at a newer Golf

It is the second generation model. We have two in the family, a 14 and a 15. Fantastic cars. Ours are automatics and I would highly recommend finding one with an auto box.

1 series vs a golf? 1 series is by far and away a better car, having owned both.

Poverty spec 1 series (many seem to be) v newer well specced Golf with a good engine - I'd have the golf every day of the week

Both our 1 series came with leather as standard, USB input, alloys etc etc. There's a comfort line golf in the household as it happens and it pales spec wise to the two se 1 series we have.

This has a much better spec with leather and dsg and 170bhp for similar money. I'd have it over a manual 116d with cloth seats every time.

@ jamesbondjr most 1 series I come across are poverty spec 114d and 116d. I had the use of a brand new 114d a couple of years ago and now have the use of a newish highline golf with leather, dsg and loads of other goodies. The golf is way nicer IMHO

It's the second generation F20 1 Series launched back in 2011. They got a facelift in 2015 which included different front and rear lights. The third generation 1 Series will be launched towards the end of this year and will be based on the MINI platform so front wheel drive and larger on the inside.

A gtd is not a fair comparison veetwin.

I've owned a comfort line 105 bhp 1.9 tdi golf. My other half has a 1 series SE as does my mother. The 1 series is simply superior to drive and generally be in.

Thanks for clarification, will take for a test drive this week. Going to look at import options also to see if I can get higher spec for same pricez although VRT seems to be high on these 😣

Why is a gtd not a fair comparison? They are similarly sized and priced though the golf has a much better spec and way more power.

If anything it's not fair to compare a poverty spec 105bhp comfort line golf to a 1 series which costs way more,

Possibly not but at 5 years old the price gap is significantly narrower. There is €4000 between the two new which is a bit apart to be fair but can't be said to be when dealing with 5 year old cars.

Respectfully, veetwin, I don't think we will agree on this argument, so I'm going to bow out!!

In fairness JBJ it's two different opinions as opposed to an argument! Both fine cars in any case

Actually another question on the BMW 1-series if you don't mind, I'm looking for a bit more kick in terms of power over my current 02 vw golf 1.4 petrol. Will there be a noticeable difference, do you think?

A push bike would have more noticeable power over those 1.4 Golfs. :pac:

The 116d is no slouch. It actually a 2.0d so will defo feel a lot faster than a 1.4 golf.
