Hi i got a letter on tuesday saying that i was locked up for TB becuase of an animal i bought back in Novemeber. Now the group of cattle were bought in end of November and it says they were transferred on the 15TH Dec 2016.

It says there is an animal with a possible TB or unidentified or something. anyway the last herd test i did in november was clear, havent gone down with TB here in almost 20 years. The name and adress of the lad i bought them off was given as the herd that went down or failed a test however i met the man at the mart yesterday and he said he passed his test in January without any hassle.

could it be a mistake from the dept?? could the original farmer on the card be the one who went down with TB? surely after 5 months on this farm i cant be locked up. anyone any ideas

Mistakes can be made so especially as there's anomalies give your DVO a ring and ask them to check it out.

Department rarely make mistakes and if they do , they will not admit to it .That the way it goes .
Also now days they have a lot of extra powers to tattle tb therefore anything is possible .
In this country nothing was ever followed up on but since the recession your mother could be jailed for hanging out a dirty sock on the line .
    Now anything is possible .

They will make it up too suit themselves as they see fit.i think no other business would tolerate some of the restrictions they place on farmers in regard too so called tb eradication programme

I take from that, that you're happy enough with the TB levels in the country then?

Doubt if the farmers in Wicklow would agree with you!

We were restricted with TB last year. Dealing with the Dept, you really felt they were just going through the motions. Brought the Dept Vet down to show her where the badgers were. Obvious from looking at the ground that they were well populated in the area. Got a phone call then a few weeks later from a guy dealing with the badger issue. His attitude was - 'shur they could have wandered in from miles away'.
Sad thing is know exactly where the TB came from. Proving it is another point altogether.
