Thinking of buying a 2013 qashqai with 50000 miles on it. Anything I should look out for in particular?

The older one with a small face lift

Ok, by 2013 that model was coming to the end of it's life cycle so any faults with earlier ones were probably ironed out at that stage. 1.5 DCi engine is a Renault engine and has been around for about 12 or 13 years now. 1.6 petrol engines is Nissan built and they have been known to have timing chain problems. Any rattle from that engine and walk away.

Build quality is generally good on them and UK models tend to be higher spec - Ntec is the highest UK spec afaik which normally come with panoramic sunroof and Sat Nav. SVE would be the highest Irish spec, XE would be the base model and a bit bare. If it does come with SAT Nav make sure it has the SD card with the maps otherwise Nissan will charge you about ?500 for a new SD card.

Friend of mine has one from new, 2007, it failed the nct recently with rust on the subframe, he got replacement parts from a scrappy , but it wasnt a cheap job. He lives near the sea in Youghal , and blames it on the salty air!

The front suspension parts tend to wear out prematurely in comparison to other similar type of cars.

Wouldn't rate the 1.6 petrol engine. Loud, underpowered, high tax, badly needs a 6th gear. Perhaps you're looking at diesel anyway!

The new 1.6 is pretty awful alright, I had driven the old one years ago and remembered it was gutless and a little noisy, but they seem to have made it louder on the newer ones. Got one for a relative and he's delighted with it. Goes to show it's all relative!

Tax is only €390 on them I think. (This was a 2013 with stop/start, think it's called ISG)

Was the old one carried over from the Primera?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Nope, different engine family.

Not the model in question but the 1.2 petrol in the new model is much better. Nippier than the 1.6, 6 speed and just quieter and more refined.

True, but it's also much more complicated and more likely to throw a wobbler.

Have a 1.5 diesel, almost 200k on it and runs well. Service history is always a bonus if you are buying.

    Very good, 45-50mpg no bother.

I drove one and think it was one of the worst carts ive ever driven.

Underpowered and feels like a tin can, very cheap.

They're awful. Nissan are now Renault and the Quasqai have terrible reliability. My 80 year old aunt recently got rid of hers after numerous break downs and she would have put up very little milage.

How do you explain massive sales?

Because women want to drive something that resembles an SUV and they're cheap.

Statistically they're quite reliable, and people that have them tend to buy another.
