The whole Walsh park debate has opened up again. What's does everyone think ,it's been suggested to move to Carriganore, I'm not so sure. Look at Semple, Nowlan, Gaelic grounds etc.. these grounds are in town locations next to pubs , places to eat etc it's all of these things that add to a great match day experience that the city & city hotels could do well from . Yes Walsh park is not fit for purpose but I think Carriganore is to far away you would need buses to and from match We need a bigger ground in a more central location ,which probably isn't possible so maybe Dungarvan is the solution. Just to mention I'm from Waterford City . U.T.Deise

As a Dub I used to prefer to be in Dungarvan even though it is longer hike. We got better results too I think! Walsh Park is a bit like Wexford Park in terms of location and handiness of parking, pubs, somewhere to eat. All a matter of luck I suppose where the other places you mention are located. No idea of where Carrignore is so can't comment!

Carriganore ( WIT Sports Campus)is on the outskirts of Waterford city next to the old Kilmeaden rd , across from the Butlerstown retail park ( Harvey Norman ) for anyone familiar with this area.

Think it may be time too move elsewhere as The sportsfield has runs it's course and Dungarvan is not fit for big match days. It looks acceptable since they done the upgrade of the terraces but still lacks a lot

Don't think carrignore(WIT sports campus) could be upgraded as it's pretty much build but maybe they could buy a greenfield site on the city/county boarder.

I'd love too build a stadium on the new development on the city quays which would be walkable from the city centre

The county board really should of considered moving to the WIT campus in carrignore before they started building

It's doesn't need to be a huge stadium. A 20000 seater which could host concerts. If they planned it a few years ago we could of been in line to host a few games for the Rugby world cup in 2023/27.

Don't think this needed a new thread, could have added it in the Waterford discussion forum. If there was to be one decent county ground then Fraher field Dungarvan would be the best choice, as it is a good location and room to develop. However would need to knock the stand, have the pitch going from south to north and develop around it. But due to lack of funds this is a non runner.

Based on the idea of selling Walsh Park for housing and using it to fund a new stadium in Carriganore then I would be against it. Carriganore is a great facility at present and would be terrible to try build a stadium in the middle of it destroying the grass based pitches there. Also it is in a bad location. While Walsh Park is a kip it's best to leave it as is.

Considering Walsh Park is not fit to hold a championship game then Waterford need to find a new home. Every other county with serious GAA ambitions has a proper venue.

How about building a multi purpose stadium at the RSC ?

Sell Walsh Park and put the money into a nice little stadium,Get Waterford United on board & with the hurlers and footballers based there plus a few concerts etc.. would be a welcome addition to the city.

Pitch not big enough even with putting the temp grass on the running tracks

    Be a good idea though
