Hi, I'm just wondering if somebody would be able to give me a bit of info about callan bacon? Has anybody ever worked there as a general operative? All info greatly appreciated. Thank you

I haven't worked there myself but 2 friends of mine did. One lasted 2 days the other 3 before they both walked out. I can't remember the reasons why (It was quite a while ago now).

I worked there for 6 months, extremely hard work. Got called back to my previous job so went back as its a better deal. Most of the workers are eastern european mostly fairly friendly. With a lot tbere can be a language barrier
Be aware you could end up going into work and being sent home after 2 or 3 hours if theres not much work to be done.
Wages are min wage, you will be docked 15 minutes if youre late back from break, it is unionised, youre just automatically docked the union sub unless you opt out.
You can get discounted pork from there, as an employee

I imagine youll either be on thr cyrovac line or on 1 of the rasher lines. Cyrovac line involves packing and sealing pork and ham fillets.
Rasher lines obviously involves packing rashers.

Saying that you may be changed soon afterwards to the 2 to 10.30 shift.

Personally if you have any dependants or are very reliant on your wages to keep everything paid i would stay in my current job or use this as a stepping stone to get another if youre unemployed

I do but the hours aren't great, I didn't think it would be as bad as people are saying to be honest.

I'm a bit thrown off it now, thought the hours were good and it sounded ok, but now I'm just a bit worried.

Literally i had weeks there that i would only have 26 or 27 hours. Now that wasnt so bad as i was getting tax back when I didnt get the hours but still financially it was putting us severe pressure.
I had weeks that i could work 50 to 60 hours, be absolutely shattered but still have to keep going. My 1st week in there I ended up doing a 14 hour shift started at 12 finished just after 2 (and that was just bcos a machine broke down) back in for 1pm the following day.
Literally if there is ot you are expected to work it.

Personally if i were you id hold out for something better. If youre living in callan youre fairly central to both clonmel and kilkenny
