Was quoted almost 11 grand to upgrade my qashqai from 10 to 13. My own runs well but think it is time to change. Was considering buying one in UK and selling my own or buying a very light damage one and having it repaired. Any opinons /

Trade in value of your own is probably around €6500-€7k, would be better to sell it privately and then use the no trade in to get a better deal. Your own should be in demand privately s they were very popular when new.

I presume the 13 model you are going for is the newer model released that year?

Just over 3.5k per year to trade up 3 years is not the worst to be honest. The days of trading up for small money per year have disappeared. Resale values of Irish used cars have taken a real tumble due to Brexit and importing cars.

BTW a slight damaged repaired car from the UK will still more than likely be classed a Category D write off. Also for VRT purposes Revenue will not value a damaged/repaired car lower than an undamaged one. It will also still be listed as a Category D write off when you go to sell it and while it might have been superficial or cosmetic damage, buyers here will still shy away when they run a history check. It's resale value will have to take this into account so unless you plant to keep the car until it dies then you may not save much by buying such.
