If you are 20 years old . And you have just finished a college course. Can you sign on the Dole when your course is finished. What type of dole would you be entitled to.

    Students

If you have just left school you cannot get Jobseeker's Allowance. To get Jobseeker's Allowance you must have been out of school for 3 months and you must be at least 18 years of age.
Third-level students cannot claim Jobseeker's Allowance or Benefit while they are studying full-time. This disqualification also applies to the summer holiday periods between academic years (unless you are a mature student). However once you have finished college permanently you can claim a jobseeker's payment if you cannot find work. This is also the case if you leave college without finishing your course.
The 3 month disqualification rule does not apply to Youthreach participants.

If your finished the course then you can get a letter from the college confirming that the duration of the course was 1 year and that you have not enrolled for any further courses.
SW will consider your claim if you have that letter on the college headed paper with the college stamp

    It's not correct though.

How is the job hunt going?

I got it each summer as a mature student (think it was over 23s) no problem.

So you were in college each academic year, with no SW payment during that year, then when school finished in May you signed on and got Jobseekers Allowance for may June July and August before signing off in September to go back to school?

If you start college at 23 or over ( mature student) you can sign on during the summer months.
