With an expanding family I think I'm going to have to upgrade to a larger car. Currently in a 151 highline Passat on pcp, but with two child seats it's hard to fit the mother in law in the back who spends a fair bit of time with us.

This is the confusing bit, we have a 141 golf too that is loan free so I was thinking of changing it to a 7 seater and then upgrading the pcp Passat to a golf gti next year :D

Problem is I don't want an extra loan out at the minute and say the golf is worth 15k, all that's available for around that money is the Peugeot 5008s of the world from 131 onwards.

Would I be mad to go back the years and pick up something like this??

I'd be much happier in that but would it spend most of its time in a garage? Maybe 25-30k km a year

Does that Merc have 3 separate seats across the back? I know the Peugot 5008 is boring but it has 3 separate seats to comfortably accommodate 3 car seats or 2 car seats & an adult. In addition you have the option of the 2 seats in the 3rd row.

Elephant in the room, your golf is worth no where near your valuation....

€16k on a 10 year old car is madness in any mans eyes.
remember 08 (low tax) are becoming very affordable on the second hand market now therefor the a#s had fallen out of the pre 08 market. 07 s class are only fetching €7k.

That Merc belongs in dreamer of the year thread I would have thought that would be well sub 10k. Like 7/8k. Then it makes a bit of sense.

I am all for buying big older machines but not at that price.

Yeah possibly over estimating golf, but there's very few kms on it and for some reason people in Ireland go ape**** for golfs. Really good at holding their value (We got offered 16k without pushing on trade in but I know they have play money with new car price too so doesn't reflect actual value)

Good to know re price, it is a lot for an old yoke I suppose. Not sure about seat configuration or isofix with something that old.

I'm probably dreaming and just have to join the mpv club. Read somewhere that you can get some fun out of an smax, would end up going back the years too especially if the golf can't reach decent money.
