CE Scheme and training

It's been 4 years since I finished my last CE Scheme and I'm about to undertake another (I only did one year so I have more time). I seem to remember that the DSP gave a training allowance of 200 euro to each participant to do education and training courses? Wondering if this is still the case, or if the amount has changed (or been scrapped)?

    Thanks.

There is still a training allowance, talk to your new supervisor (you should have a discussion soon after you start about training options)

I've been looking into training I'd like to do, apart from Fas courses (or whatever they're called now!) seems everything would be a grand upwards. I'd love to do some proper courses and anything they give towards that would be a help.

Depending on the supervisor and what others on the scheme are doing, it might be possible. The training budget is calculated per person but can be allocated as needed, some participants do little or no training so their "portion" can be allocated elsewhere.

Make sure the courses you want are qqi approved as dept of social welfare are getting much stricter on which courses they approve.

Didn't know all of this - thanks very much! I will take a few weeks settling into my position before I undertake training, so plenty of time to discuss with supervisors.

Oh also if the course you're looking at is for a major award (any level) it should be ok as social welfare are pushing for major awards in training :)

It's more the cost - I'm wondering if the DSP still allow a training budget of 200. I'd be willing to top that up myself because I really do want to do this job and get something behind my name other than my Animal Care cert with you could basically wipe a dog's arse with while you're pet sitting! And not much else!
