Just wondering how long it generally takes to get your p45 after you leave your job?

I finished up my job this week but won't receive my last paycheck from them until the 5th of May. Does that mean I won't get my P45 from them until after I get that last payslip?

Yep, I'd expect it to be issued after the final pay check.

As far as I know, they 14 days to give you your P45... if not, you need to contact revenue who will write to them

I don't think there's a set time limit? If you were to leave one day into a monthly pay run, I think it'd be expected that they'd issue it after the final pay check, so you'd be waiting a month. Some companies might settle things immediately, but I don't think they're obliged to.

It can depend on the size of the company and whether the P45 and payroll is done in house or through an Accountant. When I worked in retail it took 4ish weeks to get my P45 because the company was so big they only filed them once a month. Smaller companies normally request it from the accountant and either give it directly to you or have it posted. I file P45's in work all the time and send them out the same day.

Just a funny story. I worked for a public sector organisation and the head had it in for my boss. He couldn't get at him so bullied me. When I resigned as I got a much better job the head when giving my leaving speech on my last day said 'I've always wanted to do this and handed me my p45. In front of 200 people. Anyway it backfired as in his haste to arrange such an incident he had bypassed normal payroll. It was the start of the year and I had signed up to a Travel pass scheme and health insurance for the whole year. But they never stopped these payments yet the pass and policy remained active. So I won in the end!
