Unable to return to work after career break

As the title suggests, I am currently on a career break until the end of the month. Myself and my personnel manager agreed last year that it was the best solution. I had been struggling with mental health issues (anxiety, depression)for a while brought on by work and rather than quitting we came to this solution.

However, nothing has really changed in relation to how I'm feeling. And the career break can't really be extended for longer. I feel I need to quit? But if I do would I be entitled to claim for anything? My savings are running low and my partners salary can't sustain us both.

Would I be better off returning to work? The thought of that is killing me.

Sorry to hear your so poorly.
I'm presuming that you had at least 13 weeks of paid work and at least 26 other weeks of credits in 2015.
If you have that and at least 2 other years of PRSI paid then you need to go to your GP and ask him/her to fill in their part of an Illness Benefit application form
You complete the rest and submit it to your local SW office
Just put it in the SW post box you don't have to engage with anyone up there if you don't want to
If you salary for 2015 worked out at at least €300 per week then you can get €188 per week at least
You may get something for your OH and any children that live with you but that bit is "means tested"
You can get this for 2 years max
You must post in a GPS cert every week
You can get this even though you've given in your notice and been given your P45
It is paid either into your bank account or by cheque in the post
Give yourself a break. You need time and space. All will be well.
