    Hi,
Long running problem with my car.
Goes into limp mode. Engine malfunction displayed on dashboard.
6 months ago Main Ford dealer done diagnostics and replaced 2 of the 4 fuel injectors.
Drove great for a while then same thing happened, so got a third replaced 2 months ago. Again drove fine but yesterday back to square one.
Has anyone had this issue. I'm wondering is there any point in throwing money into this car.
If I know that replacing the final fuel injector will fix all I'll be happy. I know no such thing as a cast iron guarantee but losing patience with this car. Even though it is a great car otherwise, no sarcasm intended

Sounds like a fuel quality issue either now or in the past.
Those injectors dont give much trouble really so if four are gone id be checking fuel quality.

Thanks. Prob a simple question. But how do I check fuel quality.
This issue has been intermittent for the last 2 years. Only 6 months ago did I go to Main Ford dealer.
They done diagnostics, would poor fuel quality not have shown up.
Are you saying the if dirty fuel was used in the past, the car will never be right again?

Difficult to say, OP. If it is coming up with a fault pointing towards the injectors (and wiring or other possibilities have been ruled out), then it simply comes down to an injector issue.

The Siemens/Continental/VDO injectors fitted to these engines give a lot of trouble - both electrically and mechanically. If it is a mechanical issue they can be reconditioned, if electrical, they have to be replaced.

As Martin says, you cannot rule out possible contamination as all four have gone (particularly if there are mechanical issues with the injectors). Therefore check the quality of the fuel - you could have the faulty injectors stripped down and inspected if you still have the old units.

    Thanks,
I think the best thing is to get the last of the 4 fuel injectors replaced and also ask garage to inspect old injector for poor fuel quality, just to rule it out, if nothing else.
If car continues to give problems after then I might cut my losses.
I bought it for 10k in 2013 and I will have spent almost 1,400 on fuel injectors.
Only silver lining is that if this resolves it, it is a fine car. So it's last chance saloon (no pun intended)

    Hey jos_kel,

I sent you a PM because I couldnt post the URL as Im as new user.
This seems to be known defect with the Siemens injector with serial number ending with 3.
Same issue happened to my 09 focus this weekend and garage said I need to replace the injector number 2.
From the link I sent you, looks like people got no satisfaction from Ford even though they installed bad batches of these injectors

    Thanks Jimmyf27,
Did garage admit it was a known defect and new injector will work.
I think I actually came across a similar link before and mentioned it to the garage but they seemed to either not know or just fobbed me off.
Maybe I might show them the link you sent.
At this stage I'd nearly be happy if the 4th fuel injector was replaced and I had no further issues

Sorry for butting it but are the same injectors to be found in the the 2L TDCi? My 2008 s-max went into limp mode and engine malfunction message flashed up on screen yesterday while accelerating rather hard away from a toll bridge. However when I switched on again later all was well and did over 80 miles today without any re-occurrence. Is this intermittent type problem a symptom of an injector problem?

After a few years intermittent problems and getting nowhere with garage who sold me the car.
Main ford dealer ran diagnostics and suggested replacing all 4 injectors.
Couldn't afford them all at once so getting them done piecemeal. On last one next. This is the final chance I'm giving this car

No, I rang my local ford garage and they said they knew nothing about defected Siemens fuel injectors in 08/09 Ford focus cars
Eventually got it replaced and it is running fine for now and mechanic confirmed it wasn't a Siemens fuel injector.

It was a Continental injector that was replaced from my focus.
Part costs over 300 euro and after labour and VAT it cost me over 550.

As there is another 3 fuel injectors in the car, replacing all four is quite expensive.

And how long may I ask, has it been running fine since you got it repaired

You can get the same injector new from a Continental repair agent for €220 + VAT. Are you getting yours direct from Ford?

If its a 2 litre it will more than likely be a Delphi injector.

What is happening to your vehicle can be anything though, you'll want to get a proper diagnosis on the vehicle before doing anything as it might not be the injectors causing your problem.

I had the same problem last year: the alarm, 'malfunction' warning, the engine just failing. I brought it to the Ford dealer who replaced 1 of the injectors. Between that & one or 2 small jobs, I ended up paying about e570.

At the weekend, I got the same 'symptoms' again.

My question is: do I have to bring it to the Ford dealer? Could a regular mechanic do the same job for less money??

Take it to a diesel mechanic.
My focus kept going into limp mode when I put the foot down.
Tried 2 Ford dealers, read overboost, but could not resolve issue.
Diesel mechanic diagnosed turbo boost actuator. No more limp mode since.

The mechanic said all four fuel injectors on my 1.6 2010 Ford Focus need replacing. He quoted €125 per injector or €500 for all four. A bit of a shock of a price, to be honest. Is this the going rate? Is there anything else I should be checking if all four have gone?
