I have a friend who is applying for a disability allowance at the moment. They are currently getting Jobseeker's Allowance.
Does any one here have any advice for them before they send off the forms?
Also does any know the waiting time for getting disability allowance at the moment?

Make sure they include everything they are looking for on the form and with the form - my OH had to apply last year it took 5 months for the decision. Also tell them to make a copy of the form and any other paperwork they are sending - and a note for any originals for example bank statements to be returned asap.

Just read everything carefully before filling out - the biggest pain is in the wait so tell them to ring the department about a week after they sent everything in to confirm receipt and make sure they have all.

Make sure your friend puts in as much information as possible, doctors letters are very important as is the bit the doctor fills in.

It can be quite a while and it seems common that people are refused and need to ask for a review and/or appeal so don't get discouraged!

Perhaps they need to change from Jobseekers to swa as well as they aren't entitled to JA if they aren't looking for a job.

    Hope that helps :)
