Toyota Corolla 06 oil light keeps coming on for a few seconds but goes off with a bit of a rev. Thought it was just a faulty oil switch but now there is a different noise from the engine when light comes on so i am thinking oil pump myself but I'm no mechanic. Oil up to the mark on the stick so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The oil pick up in the sump could be blocked.

Also revving an engine to get the low oil pressure light to go off is not a smart thing to do.

Thanks. I will have to get her to the garage tomorrow. Took her for a run today just a few kilometers and no sign of any light today but just can't be sure how far you would get without the light coming on. Thanks for the reply.

Most definitely the oil pump is failing. If it's the 1.4 petrol engine I know of the same thing happening on two different engines so it's not uncommon.

Just back from the garage today. Mechanic seem to think a blockage in the sump just as stool bend suggested. The car is a 1.4 petrol so i will keep fingers crossed and hope its not the pump.cheers.

Bad design of oil pickup, it has a little steel dish that clogs with carbon and doesn't allow oil to wash it free.
When you drop the sump and clean the gauze cut the metal away, this will allow the carbon to be washed off the gauze and be removed at oil change time.
